Q.

What species of wood can I install?

A.

The most common wood to install is red oak or white oak, but your options don’t end there. We install Oak, Cherry, Mesquite, Walnut, Hickory, Maple, Birch, Pine, Cork & Bamboo to name a few. After a species is chosen, the cut and grade of the wood must also be selected. Wood can be plain sawn, rift, or quartered. You can also get end-grain pieces of wood for your project. Grading generally goes from character grade, #2 common, #1 common, and select. Walnut and some other species have their own grading process, unique to the wood characteristics.

Q.

What’s the difference between grades?

A.

Generally speaking, #2 or character grade has more character in it, such as knot holes and mineral streaks. #1 common grade has less character, usually the largest knot hole will be the size of a pencil eraser. Then select grade wood has the least amount of knot holes and mineral streaks. Wood mills still allow room for error with all species.

Q.

What colors can I choose from?

A.

We most often use DuraSeal Stain colors. You can view their online gallery here. Remember, we can mix any combination of their colors. We also always do samples on site. Our owner and team leads will work closely with you to achieve your desired custom color.

Q.

How long does wood need to acclimate?

A.

According to the National Wood Flooring Association (https://www.nwfa.org/), wood needs to acclimate for 4-6 weeks inside the home with proper heating or cooling. Wood can acclimate installed before the finish work takes place, or in bundles, depending on the scope of work being done.

Q.

What type of wood do you install?

A.

We install solid and engineered wood. We install prefinished glue down wood. We install all species of wood; oak, walnut, pine, cherry, hickory, mesquite, and maple. We will help you select the best species for your project.

Q.

What size plank can I install?

A.

We install 2 ¼” wood all the way up to 10” wide planks. We can help you select the best width for your project.

Q.

I have water damage, what should I do?

A.

Call our office and our estimator will come out and provide you with a free quote on repairing your damaged wood. We will get some moisture readings and can help you work with your insurance provider.

Q.

Can I refinish my existing hardwoods?

A.

This is a tricky question. Most solid hardwoods can be refinished. One of our wood floor experts can help determine if you still have enough life in your floor to refinish them. As long as it is not too close to the tongue and groove, they can be refinished.

Q.

What is your process if I want work done?

A.

First, call our office to set up a FREE estimate. Next, our estimator will come out and discuss your project. From there we will email you a proposal with the options discussed during your free consultation. Next, if you accept the proposal, you will call our office and we will schedule the work. We will execute a signed contract and ask for a deposit up front to hold your spot on our schedule and order any material that is needed. You will also be working with our owner if you need any samples or design consultations. Throughout your job you will have access to our team leads and owner/supervisors. We are happy to discuss any punch list items or concerns that you have throughout the project and once the job is complete.

Q.

What happens the first day on the job?

A.

When we begin any work on your floors, we will first prep the area with plastic. We cover any wall art, cabinets, shelves, light fixtures, etc.. If we are sanding we also run a dust control system to help cut down on the amount of dust. We also use air filters to cover your return air, but we do recommend that you change your filters after all work is complete.

One of our team leads or team supervisors will set up your job with the crew that will actually be doing the work. We will answer any questions you have about the process, set up a time to do color samples if needed, and discuss the timeline. We will also make sure you have our direct numbers to contact us any time throughout the job.

Q.

My floors are complete, now, how do I care for them?

A.

For polyurethane we recommend using Bona Cleaner or vinegar and water. We recommend using 1/3 cup vinegar to gallon of water. Never pour water directly on your floor. Use a damp mop or Swiffer to apply these products. Spray clean your floors yearly (which is a service we offer) to prolong the life of your polyurethane.

For wax finishes, we recommend dry mopping the floors and vaccuming. It is best to wax and buff your floors every 6 months or so depending on traffic. We are always happy to come and review your floors to see if they are in need of a wax and buff.
