our story

Specialty Hardwood began in 1979 when Danny Jenson saw a need in Dallas to help customers with their wax finish on wood floors. What started as a weekend job, quickly grew into a full time business. He started maintaining other hard surfaces. Within a few years Danny was also installing and finishing hardwoods. He has since traveled around the world to share his expertise and has trained some of Dallas’ best craftsman, who still work for the company.

In 2015, Danny retired and passed on the torch, to his daughter, Lydia Riley. Lydia grew up in the industry, working every summer during high school at her dad’s office. She was working towards a doctorate in family therapy when she got the opportunity to fully run the family business.

Specialty Hardwood is truly a family run business. We aspire to treat our customers like a part of our family throughout the process.

Our team members, David, Carlos, Aaron, Jose, & Sergio are some of the most talented floor craftsmen in DFW. They have worked as part of Team Specialty for over 15 years and specialize in installation, custom patterns, sand and finish, hand scrape, custom color and repairs.

JOSE

Jose is our “maintenance expert.” He is skilled in waxing wood and providing routine maintenance on a variety of surfaces. Jose likes to spend time with his family. He has three kids.

Sergio

Sergio has been with our company for over 15 years. He is skilled in finish work. He is also a great mechanic and likes to spend time with his wife and 3 sons.

Aaron

Aaron has over 20 years experiences in the wood floor industry. He likes to see a job from start to finish and takes great pride in his work. He enjoys spending time with his wife and four children.

Carlos

Carlos has over 23 years of experience as a wood floor craftsman. He enjoys custom work and likes a challenge when it comes to install or color selection. Carlos enjoys spending time with his wife and children and is about to be a grandpa.

David

David has over 20 years of experience installing hardwood floors. He is our “install expert.” He can replicate or design any pattern and can tackle the most difficult installation challenges. He likes to spend time with his family and care for his horses.

Lydia Riley

Lydia Riley grew up learning about wood floors, and after she graduated from Southern Methodist University (Pony Up!) with her masters degree, she & Danny decided she would train to take over the family business. Lydia soaked up as much knowledge as she could from Danny and has worked hard to continue his legacy in the flooring industry. She has a daughter, Nora Ann, who often works with her. Lydia is passionate about making your floor design dreams come true.

SANDY CAMPBELL

Sandy has been part of our family at Specialty for over 20 years. Sandy works behind the scenes to keep everything running smoothly. If you call our office, there is a good chance Sandy will be greeting you on the other end. Sandy has 2 daughters & a son, along with 4 grandkids. She is about to have her first greatgrandchild. She is an excellent creator of many crafts, especially crochet.
